The history of Kraja
Kraja was built in1869 by the lumberjacks Finn-Anders and Finn-Samuel. The building, which was both a doctor’s and forester’s residence became a rest-home for senior members of the Sami community and stayed like that until 1925. Arjeplog municipality took it over in 1956 and Kraja became a hostel and the cabins started to be built. In the New Year 1977 the redevelopment of Kraja started and it opened to the public the same year. The restaurant was added in 1982. Hotel Silverhatten bought Kraja and still owns it. We have strived to preserve the rustic environment from the 1800s.
